Sims paintings are intended to involve the viewer and with each piece he introduces an element of a journey, with points of entry and departure. Sims also tries to reveal an aesthetic appeal in unlikely places and ask the viewer to consider things otherwise ignored.

His current work has taken its inspiration from mosaics and the landscape; rock pools, dunes, the ocean, moors, standing stones, cairns and old mining activity which has left its mark, in this instance in Penwith in Cornwall. With these works he has created jewel like, colour saturated images filled with movement in order to entice the viewer in.
