Originally from Holland, Ijbema now lives and works as a professional artist in Wales. Before discovering life as an artist, he was a scratch model builder, producing models for some of the most famous names in Grand Prix racing.

Ijbema is an impressionist painter. His work captures and emphasises atmosphere, energy and movement rather than focussing on physical detail. Though he applies the paint delicately, his technique conveys the excitement and speed associated with motor racing and his work freezes these exhilarating moments in time.

Ijbema is also inspired by cycling, using his art to record each stage of every Tour de France for the last eight years.
