Newbury based artist Marcus Bolt takes a philosophical approach to painting. He is amazed and intrigued by the way we process what we see with our eyes via our mind, transforming this into a painted canvas.
Influenced by the Dutch, Italian and French masters, Bolt’s work follows a contemporary still life theme. His starting point is everyday objects, assembling items such as a cheese grater, tea pot or fruit to create truly balanced compositions. Bolt marries a graphic, illustrative style with the realistic representational techniques of the Grand Masters. There is a real stillness and calm to these works, something that Marcus felt whilst painting them, experiencing moments of peace and Zen-like points.
