Ann Palmer

For this series of paintings Palmer has chosen to depict the beaches of Whitstable at various times of the day and year. Often standing on the beach painting en plein air watching the sea ebb and flow, the morning mist move across the Swale, the light on the horizon and the clouds coming in from the west over London.

Impressionistic in style with a hint of abstraction. Her process involves building up a thin layer of paint before applying it more thickly with a pallet knife. The extent to which the painting is built with more impasto depends on the scene that she is painting and her mood.
