Rosemary Lawrey

Rose is an experimental artist from Devon who now lives and works in West Berkshire. Some of her experimental processes include painting by night, resulting in surprising colour mixes and sketching as she walks. It’s important to her practice that she is not always in complete control and that she allows herself the freedom to be spontaneous.

Rose’s collection is inspired by lighthouses and the mystery associated with them. She uses contrasting brushstrokes to evoke the movement and energy of the sea with the refuge the lighthouse offers from them. Rose takes influence from Jackson Pollock, Henry Moore and Antoni Pixot. Her compositions are carefully thought out, combining abstraction with the details of technical maritime equipment to make for a narrative and energetic collection.
