Michael Richard Long

Mike lives and works as an artist in Bristol. He worked as a senior lecturer in Art and Design at Brunel College as well as an illustrator and book designer, illustrating ’Mammal Evolution’, a book published by the Natural History Museum.

Mike takes inspiration from the stylised railway posters of the 1920’s and 30’s. A group of post-impressionist artists called the Glasgow Boys are another influence on his work, producing highly colourful depictions of the Scottish countryside in the late 1800’s. Mike paints the rural landscape of the West Country in carefully chosen juxtaposing colours. His opaque colour combinations enhance the landscape, guaranteeing a strong ’popping’ pallet and joyfully impactful collection.
