Veronica Wells
Veronica Wells graduated in 2009 in Fine Art from Winchester School of Art. This series shows her work stretching into the Olympic world of sport and competition. Olympic athletes honed to perfection cover the canvases, each displaying their determination to succeed, be the best and win. Whilst we may not all be able to do the splits on a beam, competition is a basic human instinct, experienced by most of us on a daily basis and relative only to pain, effort and ability we put into our endeavours. With the Olympic games comic up in the UK at the heels of an economic downturn, competition of the fittest and the need to put in one’s best performance is something that is felt not just by athletes but by people in all walks of life. The purpose of this series is to convey the feeling of possibility and empowerment that comes with effort and will to succeed.
