Pip Sanday

Graduated 2007 Winchester School of Art BA (Hons) Fine Art, Painting.

Movement and dance has been important to me since early childhood. This found an outlet, as a physiotherapist, when working with people, for whom speech is not a reliable form of communication, through movement and colour.

Art and drawing has also been part of my life, but not until the start of the Foundation Degree 4 years ago, as a mature student, have I given it any importance or time.

Surface and texture are fundamental in these recent works. They are dynamic and engaging images. Optical and tactile characteristics have been created through the use of gesture, gesso, muslin, pigment and medium resulting in luminosity and 3-dimensionality.

There is a deliberate sense of spirituality, of obscuring and revealing, and of heaviness and lightness within the images.

The viewer is free to find his or her own meaning.
